UNICROSS VC Spreads Yuletide Love To The Vulnerables

Nsan Ndoma-Neji, Calabar

The Vice Chancellor of University of Cross River State, UNICROSS, Prof. Francisca Bassey, has expressed joy at being able to share the season of sweetness with those who are often overlooked by the society.

Speaking shortly after celebrating the Yuletide with the aged and vulnerable children during her visit to the Special Child Home and Elderly Care Centre in Calabar, yesterday, to show love to the inmates, she asked the inmates not to worry themselves as God who created the heaven and earth would certainly cater for them, just as He’s been catering for others outside the aged facility

She enthused, “In this season, as we reflect on Jesus Christ – the perfect example of love and sacrifice, I am inspired by the people‑centered leadership of our People First governor, His Excellency Apostle Prince Bassey Otu, and his dear wife, Bishop Oyaonwan Otu.”

She added that their compassion and commitment to the welfare of all continue to motivate her to reach out to the vulnerable and the elderly.

She emphasized that the gesture was meant to bring joy, hope, and a renewed sense of dignity to the beneficiaries.

The children and senior citizens, visibly moved, responded with prayers and blessings for Prof. Bassey, Governor Otu, and Bishop Oyaonwan Otu.

Prof. Bassey noted that acts of kindness are a powerful reminder of the true spirit of community, one that transcends seasons and occasions.

She therefore urged everyone to look beyond individual pursuits and extend a hand to those who may lack family support.

She highlighted that the Vice Chancellor’s office is committed to supporting the governor’s vision of a caring society, by engaging directly with the underprivileged, adding that the university reinforces its role as a catalyst for social development.

The Vice Chancellor thanked the staff of the Special Child Home and Elder Care Centrr for their dedication and for making the visit possible.

She also acknowledged the broader Cross River community for its ongoing support of humanitarian initiatives.

In closing, Prof. Bassey expressed gratitude on behalf of the children, the elderly, and all citizens of Cross River State.

She affirmed that the true richness of life lies in the well‑being of the most vulnerable and called on everyone to contribute to building a stronger, more compassionate state.

She concluded by saying that the new year presents an opportunity for renewed energy and purpose, urging all to emulate the example of service she demonstrated through this outreach.
