Ogun, Ijebu-Ode LG Debunk Alleged Suspension Of Traditional Chiefs

The Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Ijebu Ode Local Government Area have debunked a reporting circulating on social media alleging the suspension of three traditional chief of Ijebu-land, describing the alleged suspension report as false and misleading.

The report already gaining traction on social media had alleged that the Kakanfo of Ijebu land, the
Lapoekun of Ijebu land and the Madasa of Ijebu land,
Chiefs Abimbola Okenla, Tunde Odulaja and Lekan Oshifeso have been suspended from the Council of Chiefs.

But the two government authorities categorically stated that no such suspension has been effected or approved by any recognized traditional institution or by the Ogun State government, describing the report as the handiwork of mischief makers bent on causing confusion and disharmony within Ijebu land.

A statement signed by the Ogun States Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Ganiyu Hamzat and the chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area, Hon Dare Alebiosu stated that “chieftaincy matters are governed by established laws, customs, and due process, none of which has been initiated in respect of the named chiefs.”

They added, “The public is therefore urged to disregard the report and rely solely on official government channels for accurate information.”
