It was cheery news in Kwara State on Wednesday when the Kwara State Government House, Ilorin in a statenen said that all the 176 residents of Woro community abducted in Kiama, the Northern flank of the state who were kidnapped six months ago have been released.
Woro community is in Kiama Local Government Area of the state was reportedly invaded by bandits who came in the night riding on not less than 100 motorbikes and instantly unleashed terror on the innocent residents who were not only helpless, but were also caught unawares.
The attack victims, not fewer than 176 were abducted from both Woro and Nuku communities in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The statement released by the Governmnnt House on Wednessday evening expressed gratitude to the relentless and valiant efforts of the security forces to rescue the victims, who had been held hostage in the forest since February this year.
The statement specially thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his resolve, tireless concerns and efforts to make the release of Woro victims possible.
Chairman of the Kwara State chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, who also doubles as the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi Danladi, confirm the release of the victims by terrorists Wednesday afternoon.
Danladi, while confirming the development in an interview said that the victims with others are currently in Wawa cantonment in Niger State awaiting transportation to Kwara State.
He said, “Yes. It’s true that they have been released, and I can’t tell for now whether ransom was paid or not.
They are currently in Wawa Military Cantonment in Niger State, because our people are not the only victims released.
“But the office of the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, is currently arranging vehicles that will bring them to Ilorin.
“So, I thank Almighty God that their release happened in my time, and I’m very happy about this.”
Also, the member representing Gwanabe/Gweria/Bani/Adena state constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Saidu Baba Ahmed, confirmed the development.
He said, “Yes, the Woro kidnap victims have been released. I’m very, very excited about this development. We give thanks to President Bola Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and our security operatives.”
Armed terrorists/bandits raided the Woro and Nuku communities on February 3, 2026, allegedly killing about 200 residents and abducting other citizens who were mostly women and children.
Families of the abductees recently protested both in Kaiama and Abuja and were reported to have said that the captors had rejected the community-raised ransom attempts.
