LThe senator representing Anambra Central senatorial district of Anambra State at the upper chamber of the National Assembly, Senator Victor Umeh, has charged youths to seek knowledge before going into politics.
Umesh gave the charge while addressing members of the Enugwu-Ukwu deanry Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria, CYON, during their ‘Youth Awareness and Sensitisation Seminar,’ themed ‘Empowering the Youths For Active Political Participation And Inclusive Governance,’ held at St. Anthony’s Parish, Enugwu-Ukwu on August 22, 2026.
However, Senator Umeh, who is a prominent sponsor and patron of the CYON in Awka Diocese, a Knight of St. John International and Papal Knight of Saint Sylvester, was unavoidably absent and was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Engr. Charles Ifeanyi Obi.
Commending the CYON leadership for organizing the seminar at a time the nation is preparing for yet another important election, Umeh pointed out that the youths are often exploited and used for the wrong purposes by some politicians thus, the need to seek knowledge through education before involving in politics to be able to make valuable contributions and qualify for any leadership position they may aspire to other than being used for thuggery, ballot box snatching, social media bullies and vote buying among other social vices.
Reacting to the theme of the seminar, Senator Umeh maintained that only an informed and properly formed youth can participate actively in politics and contribute to engendering good governance.
He therefore charged them to embrace conscientious awareness and good morals to not only be aware, but involved in governance.
Engr. Obi speaking on Senator Umeh’s sterling performance in the Senate pointed out that he has championed the best form of youth empowerment through education.
He enumerated some of the achievements of the senator particularly those in Enugwu-Ukwu and Njikoka local government area of Anambra State to include supply and installation of solar-powered street lights at Ward III, Enugwu-Ukwu; the completion of lawn tennis court at Enugwu-Ukwu; the construction of block of six classrooms at Stella Maris College, Abagana; the construction of block of six classrooms at Community Secondary School, Enugwu-Agidi; the construction of culvert At Mkpasiaku, Obinagu, Enugwu-Agidi; and the construction of six classrooms at Community Secondary School, Nawfia, among others.
Other Impactful intervention of Senator Umeh, according to Engr. Obi, in Njikoka Locql Government Area are: the Anambra Central Scholarship Programme, through which 332 students are being sponsored in various tertiary Institutions among which are 31 students from Njikoka local council and 10 graduates including a Unizik First Class Graduate in Chemical Engineering – Nwanazoba Chukwuma Cyril, from Enugwu-Ukwu now abroad for postgraduate degree and the facilitation of employment for some Njikoka youths into lucrative pensionable jobs and empowerment through his Agricultural Trainings and Empowerments Programmes.
He therefore urged the youths to avail themselves of any of the opportunities facilitated by Senator Umeh through his people-oriented programmes and projects, noting that the senator is ever ready to welcome and support them.”
He further enjoined the youths to brace up for the 2027 general election in which Mr Peter Obi is contesting to become the President of Nigeria and Senator Umeh seeking re-election to the Senate through the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, stressing the need to massively support and elect the duo as they have demonstrated total commitment to engendering good governance and better welfare for the people through an honest, proactive and productive leadership.
