Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Yoruba women and youths resident in Cross River State have held a colourful Oodua Women Solidarity Unity Walk in Calabar to declare support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu.
The walk, which attracted participants from the six local government areas of the Southern senatorial district, took off from the Millennium Park through Mary Slessor Avenue and terminated at Eleven-Eleven Roundabout, showcasing Yoruba cultural heritage and peaceful co-existence in the state.
Speaking at the event, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Edema Erom, commended the Yoruba community for their decades-long contributions to the socio-economic development of Cross River, describing them as an integral part of the state.
She said, “We appreciate the Yoruba women and youths for the historical significance and the relationship you have maintained, having lived here for decades. You are an integral part of us.”
Erom said that the unity walk was also to sensitise residents on the infrastructural and economic strides of both leaders, adding that “supporting the President, the governor and all APC candidates across board will lead to sustainability and development. We must prepare for five over five, all APC.”
The President of Oodua Progressive Women in Politics, Mrs. Adejoke Oyeleye, said that the walk was aimed at projecting Yoruba culture and declaring total commitment to the re-election of both leaders.
Similarly, Chief Imam Kabeer Olowolayemo said the walk was “a demonstration of total allegiance to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu.”
He noted that the Otu administration has united all tribes irrespective of background.
