Genuine peace has returned to Oba-Akoko in Àkókò South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, following the resolution of the misunderstanding between the youths of the community, under the aegis of Oba-Akoko Youths Association and the Oloba-in-Council.
A statement by the youth association, made available to the media stated that the lingering crisis has “been successfully resolved, restoring peace, unity, and mutual understanding within the Oba Akoko kingdom.
Peace was brought about on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, through a high-powered peace and reconciliation delegation, constituted by the Hon Victor Femi Oguntoyinbo-led Akure branch of the Oba Akoko National Association, ONA.
The peace and reconciliation delegation was led by the Asiwaju of Oba Akoko kingdom, Chief Barrister Abdulkabir Olajide Ajana, SAN, with the primary objective of facilitating a lasting resolution to the issues that had existed between the Oba Akoko Youths Association and the Oloba-in-Council.
As part of the reconciliation process, the Asiwaju led members of the youths association to the palace, where both parties engaged in sincere dialogue.
The dialogue was followed with the youths, respectfully apologising to the traditional institution, acknowledging the elders as their fathers, while the atmosphere of forgiveness and reconciliation paved the way for lasting peace.
In his address to the gathering, Chief Ajana, SAN, commended both warring parties for embracing peace and choosing the path of unity over division.
He emphasised that “genuine development can only thrive in an atmosphere of harmony, mutual respect and cooperation.”
The SAN, therefore, appealed to everyone to put the past behind them, forgive one another and work collectively towards the progress and development of Oba Akoko kingdom.
In her response, the Regent of Oba-Akoko kingdom, Her Royal Majesty, Princess Fatimat Aderonke Adegoroye, expressed profound appreciation to the Akure branch of ONA, the Asiwaju of Oba Akoko kingdom, the youths body and every individual who, one way or the other contributed to the successful reconciliation process.
She prayed that “as everyone desires the peace, unity and development of Oba Akoko kingdom, God Almighty would also grant continuous progress and blessings to all contributors.
During the meeting, it was unanimously agreed that effective communication must always exist between the Oba Akoko Youths Association and the Oloba-in-Council, as the communication gap between both parties was identified as the major cause of the misunderstanding that led to the crisis.
It was, furthermore, resolved that the Youths Association’s other requests shall be looked into and treated accordingly.
One of the agreed issues was that the youths should present three “qualified and competent” candidates for the position of Youth President.
The statement added, “The Oloba-in-Council shall carefully consider the nominees, select one, and install the successful candidate without delay.”
The reconciliation and peace meeting was successfully concluded with renewed hope and commitment towards building a stronger, more united, and progressive Oba Akoko kingdom.
Present at the meeting were the regent, Her Royal Majesty, Princess Adegoroye, members of the Oloba-in-Council, the Asiwaju of Oba Akoko, Chief Barrister Ajana, SAN, selected members of the Akure branch of ONA, representatives of the Oba-Akoko Youths Association and distinguished elders and community leaders.
The successful resolution of this misunderstanding marks a new chapter in the history of Oba-Akoko kingdom as participants prayed that the renewed spirit of peace, unity and cooperation continue to strengthen Oba-Akoko community and accelerate the pace of sustainable development for the benefit of both present and future generations.
